Genesis #6

There was a question that I had last week that really made me dig. It was, “Why did Satan question Eve first and not Adam? Why does he make Eve the target of his assault on humanity?
The answer I have heard most often is that it is because Eve was the weaker of the two. I think that is partially true, but knowing that helper(azar) means to surround, aid, and protect, hence defend I wanted to know more.
“Satan was first named Lucifer, or Son of the Morning (Isaiah 14:12). It infers a glory, a brightness or radiance unique to him. In the days of his former glory he was appointed a cherub who covers aka a guardian angel. The word cover there meant to fence in or defend. A cherub was placed to guard the tree of life and cherubs were on the Ark covering the mercy seat where God’s presence dwelt. The guardian of the glory of the Lord.
In Ezekiel 28:12-14 says that Lucifer (or the King of Tyre) was the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. Perfect in beauty. But it was his ruin. Pride took hold. He craved the worship due God for himself. He was ungrateful. He wanted the adoration for himself. Ez. 28:17
So if Satan fell because of his beauty, it would appear that his revenge is to assault beauty. He destroys it. Look at the news…the corruption of manhood and womanhood. Lucifer is committed to destroy God’s work of art. But he especially hates Eve and makes her vulnerability and opportunity to assault…. or perhaps it is Adam’s vulnerability that he is after. Both? Why? Why does he question Eve? God made her captivating, glorious, and Lucifer cannot be. She is the image of the Beauty of God. She was made to allure the world to God. It makes sense that Lucifer, being who he was, is now fiercely jealous.
There is another characteristic that I saw in Eve which might make her the target. Her ability to give life.  God made the woman to give birth and nourish life. She also can give life relationally. Satan was a murderer at the beginning. He brings death. Abortion, human sacrifice, the Holocaust, school shootings, etc. And so Eve is his greatest human threat.
After the fall, Adam named Eve, “the mother of all living”. The Hebrew is chavvah meaning life giver. So Eve incarnates God’s beauty and is the giver of life to the world. Satan is bitter. Rev 12 says He set out to make war with her children. He is the villain, like in the stories, set after the Beauty, the Hero’s love.
Eve is a major threat to the kingdom of darkness. She is dangerous. Satan knows all she was meant to be and fears her. Knowing all this sheds a lot of light on my life story and the stories of other women. Christ set us free, but we must engage in the spiritual warfare. Yes, there really is a dragon, boys and girls. We must resist him.
After Peter speaks to women about beauty in 1 Peter 3, He says, “do not give way to fear”. This is a hard struggle for me. I think most of the human race deals with anxiety and fear, but maybe women a little more than men.  After the fall, death manifests itself by shame and fear. Shame of nakedness, exposer. Afraid that God and others will see us for who we really are…and abandon us. Afraid of failure. Afraid we don’t have what it takes. Afraid that God is holding out on us, so we must take matters into our own hands.

You know, when I am not a threat to the Enemy my life is fine, but not alive. When I engage in the warfare, all hell breaks loose. It is easier to hide, but much is lost. I mustn’t give way to fear! I’m seeing that I must fight to be real and where I am in the moment to live as a redeemed and authentic woman of God.  Jesus is the Life. In Him my feminine soul is alive.
