Just a Penny
Katie Davis said, "I don't always know where this life is going. I can't see the end of the road, but here is the great part: Courage is not about knowing the path. It is about taking the first step. It is about Peter getting out of the boat, stepping out onto the water with complete faith that Jesus will not let him drown."
Could it be that true courage is simply trusting and obeying Jesus who demands my absolute surrender? I think so...
Jesus said this about a woman he watched at the temple drop two very small copper coins into the offering:
"This poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on"(Luke 21:3-4). I can hear the disciples saying, "It was just a penny". Don't we all? But it was her very last. Her health, her food, her shelter, her clothing...It was her all. But she gladly gave. This is courage. Giving Jesus all up to my last penny. I am certain that if for His sake I put all I have in, He can use what little I have to offer to make some sort of difference in the world...Obedience is our gift to God. Laying a blank check before the One who owns the "cattle on a thousand hills", the one who created time and holds the universe in His hand. It begins here... "Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus" says the old hymn writer.
Will you trust and hand Him a blank check? Will you obey and give Him your last penny? He promises that His grace, strength, and life are enough until He comes...
But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the alter we lay;
For the favor He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey,
For there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we'll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do;
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey
