Month in Review
The past week was an exciting time to be in Colombia. I was so glad to be able to participate in celebrating Colombia’s anniversary of independence! Friday, for both the morning and afternoon kids’ groups, we gathered in the Maloka for devotion, time of worship, and remembrance. We watched a short film about the Colombian rebellion and independence then the kids drew descriptive pictures relating to the video.
Saturday and Sunday morning were fantastic! I accompanied Tia Lucy to watch a parade in the town park. The parade lasted around two and a half hours, but it was beautiful! Then Sunday I was able to see the parade of Leticia’s navy, air force, military, police, etc. That was incredible also!
I am continually surprised by how creative and imaginative these people are, especially the children. I say I am surprised because there seems to be a lot of ‘sitting around’. I don’t think I can say idleness, because they are fellowshipping with one another as they sit. They have so much creativity but for the most part choose not to use it! However, the moment I pull out an activity or craft of some sort they’re eyes light up, their minds starts turning, and they create more with what I have then I thought possible.
Also, Lucy and I talked about what I will be doing starting August: teaching English on Mondays to the tutors, volunteering two days a week at the clinic of Leticia, and the other three days teaching English to the children. I will swap teaching English with teaching various activities and crafts to the children every other week. Excited!
Prayer Requests
.
1. That Christ’s love would rule in all my relationships here, especially Lucy’s
and mine.
2. For wisdom as I prepare for the lessons and classes in August.
