First of all, the Lord closed the door for me to go to Ecuador, so I will be spending all 6 months in Leticia. I am excited about this, because now I will be able to really learn the language, observe the needs around me, and build long-term relationships.
So during my first month there, I will be attending the The Amazon Spanish College there in Leticia part time. It will be a total of 4 hours a day/15 hrs a week. I will also have 5hrs of cultural activities a week. I am so excited! Hopefully after I finish the courses I will be pretty fluent in Spanish and be able to teach some Inductive Bible studies to about 12-14 of the girls that live at Aljaba 24/7. The Lord laid it on my heart to teach them the names of God. Knowing these personally has been such a "strong tower" for me to run to daily; my prayer is that these girls will find security in knowing the names of Jesus.
My AWESOME boss has donated the money for me to purchase each girl a work book in Spanish from Precept Ministries International! Thank you!
Also as of a few weeks ago, Miss Lucy(the lady over Aljaba) emailed me and said she would like me to help the tutors teach English since I recently received a certification in ESL. She also informed me that I would be staying with her and helping her out with her rent.
As some of you may know, I have had an interest in the medical field. I'm not sure what avenue the Lord will have me go through yet, but I think it is very likely that this will be one of the main ways He will have me minister long-term. So I am making plans to volunteer at a local Christian clinic, who provide free care to the children at Aljaba and take a boat up the Amazon frequently to give medical care to the people living on the river. Miss Lucy says we will try to make plans to let me go along on some of these trips as well!
Finally, I will be taking along some resources(also donated) to teach a few craft skills to the kids. My hope is that they will be able to sell these items to people in the town and tourists and possibly even here in the States over time to help fund Aljaba(and their families).
Other than that, I will be doing whatever the staff would have me do daily.
As you may know, the Lord had burdened my heart with the orphaned and children-at-risk, so I am going with the mindset of, "OK, Lord, where would you have me serve, and if it is Leticia and with Aljaba then how?" My goal is to build long-term relationships, learn the language, observe the needs, and see what is required of me to serve in the medical field....
Please pray that I will go with Christ's humility and go with a heart ready to learn and be changed; and also that I would abide each day in His Spirit and die to my own expectations, so that I may see clearly what God has for me.
Thank you so much for your prayers and to all who provided for me financially!!
