Running Simply
Jesus gave us two commands: first, to love God with all our heart, soul, and might; and second, to love our neighbor as ourselves. This is God's will for us.
So how should I prioritize my life according to God's will? By loving Him first, filling myself daily with His love, so that I might love others.
Instead of running here and there for my 'entertainment' only, I should make plans that cause me to pour myself out for people-relationships. Hebrews 12:1-3 says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great crowd of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."
What does this look like for me? As I sought the Lord I heard Him say, "Put aside things that distract you from loving Me and those around you and those far away... Instead of exercising by yourself, why don't you go on a jog with your sister; how about playing games with your brother or helping him practice for basketball; try to make good lasting memories the next couple of months with your mom and dad."
I do some of these things already, but Jesus said, "Do more...Love more".
Are we aware that there is a race marked out for us? How determinedly will we run?
"Lord, help me get rid of whatever weighs me down, to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, "who for the joy set before him endured the cross." Father, help me love you and the people you love as you have loved me...For this is the heart of true faith."
